View from the Presbytery

It is now about seven years since the creation of our first parish website. The second website has now been operating for a little over one year. Many people seek information from parish websites when travelling or for some research purposes. Sometimes I have found some very useful information about a place I plan to visit through a website and that is the essential purpose of our own parish website. That is, that it be informative and helpful.
Generally, I don’t think that websites are likely to make converts to the Christian faith, although I have seen a few that have attempted to do that. The real experience of living the Christian Faith within the context of the church requires real contact to be made with people of faith, within the context of a worshipping community. If you have any suggestions as to how we can better do this, please contact me. At the same time, if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve our website, also, please contact me.
This year, 2010, marks the fiftieth year of Saint Pius X School, Unanderra. As well as being the parish school for Unanderra, there are also have a few students from Berkeley Parish and a few non-Catholic are enrolled. As the demographics of the local area have changed, the school population has fallen over the past thirteen years to about 340 students, but it remains a very important part of parish life. The jubilee celebrations this year will be announced in coming months.
God’s peace and blessings to all,
Fr Mark O’Keefe
